The Cole Group is committed to providing educators with the opportunity to enhance their knowledge, awareness, and skills in an effort to deliver meaningful and effective services to student-athletes and promote student AND athlete achievement. Through professional experience, research, and practice, we have compiled resources and discovered effective techniques to assist you with providing services to student-athletes.

Listed below are ways The Cole Group can assist you with augmenting service delivery to student-athletes:

We can provide information and training to School Counselors in the areas of:
  • Recruiting and working with college recruiters.
  • Academic monitoring and creation of academic plans for student-athletes.
  • Consulting with other school professionals regarding problems and needs of student-athletes.
  • Individual and group counseling for student-athletes.
  • High school course selection.
  • Academic support for student-athletes.
  • Conducting workshops outlining time management, career development, and college planning and transitioning.
  • Consulting with parents/guardians of recruited and non-recruited student-athletes.
  • Establishing parent education services that focus on the needs of student-athletes.
  • Helping student-athletes transfer what they learn in sport to school.
  • Developing an information clearinghouse for outside resources that could benefit student-athletes.
  • Evaluating and assessing the strengths and challenges of the school counseling program for student-athletes.
  • Discussing the consequences of over-identifying with athletics.
  • Assisting student-athletes with goal setting, time and stress management, decision making, and coping strategies.
  • Preparing student-athletes for standardized testing.
  • The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
  • The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
  • The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
We can provide information and training to Teachers in the areas of:
  • Offering individualized assistance to student-athletes.
  • Providing weekly progress reports to student-athletes, school counselors, and parents/guardians.
  • Teaching student-athletes to work effectively and efficiently in short time frames.
  • Assisting student-athletes with developing effective note-taking and study skills.
  • Showing student-athletes how to schedule and utilize study time.
  • Test-taking.
  • Referring student-athletes to school counselors for individual and group counseling.
We can provide information and training to School Administrators in the areas of:
  • Providing continued support to school counselors and teachers who work closely with student-athletes.
  • Collaborating with parents/guardians regarding the needs of student-athletes.
  • Scheduling regular meetings with counseling and coaching staff to discuss challenges and/or concerns about student-athletes.
  • Getting involved with workshops and in-service trainings related to student-athletes.
  • Providing opportunities for school counselors to attend professional development trainings related to student-athletes.
We can provide information and training to Coaches in the areas of:
  • Emphasizing the importance of academics.
  • Sportsmanship.
  • Presenting high school and college requirements.
  • Supporting school counselors and teachers with the academic development of student-athletes.
  • Communicating with parents/guardians about the needs of their student-athlete.
  • Discussing the consequences about over-identifying with athletics.
  • Sport retirement.
  • Competitive stress and burnout.
  • Meeting with parents/guardians to discuss college recruitment.
  • Referring student-athletes to school counselors for individual and group counseling.
  • Discussing the realities of obtaining a college scholarship and playing time.
